"Restorative Justice and Crime Prevention: Places, Actors and Policies"
Final International Conference
Nisida, Naples (Italy), March 25th - 26th, 2010
Restorative justice and crime prevention, as concepts and as concrete policies and practices, have both become increasingly common in recent years. The interconnection between the two, however, is less certain especially in regards to primary and secondary prevention. This two-day conference focuses on the crime prevention potential of restorative (justice) practices and processes, looking at the places in which restoration may occur, the parties involved and the policies that guide the practices. In terms of prevention, the conference focuses on secondary forms of prevention that may take place in schools or other non-criminal justice settings, the goal of which is to explore the places or contexts in which restorative justice (loosely defined) may take place. The second aspect looks at the participants-at which actors and parties are and should be involved in mediation or conferencing. The third aspect addresses existing and potential policies regarding restorative justice and crime prevention.
The conference is part of the "Restorative Justice and Crime Prevention" project, funded by the European Commission (DG Freedom, Security and Justice) and coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Justice (Department of Juvenile Justice), in partnership with the European Forum for Restorative Justice and the Psychoanalytic Institute for Social Research.

18th ISPCAN (International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect ) International Congress on Child Abuse and Neglect
Theme: One World, One Family, Many Cultures: Strengthening Children and Families Affected by Personal, Intra-Familial and Global Conflict
The theme "One World, One Family, Many Cultures," recognizes that in spite of our differences we live in one world that is a global family made up of many cultures that can work together towards a common goal of strengthening families, and preventing abuse and neglect of our children. The world faces many challenges with unfortunate conflicts among nations and tragic effects of armed conflict on our families, children and communities. The increase in violence among family members and its painful effects on our children have also challenged us to find ways to strengthen families and prevent family violence. Knowing the value of diversity in our efforts to prevent harm to our children, we invite the nations of the world to share their cultural experiences, values, and traditions and to empower the youth of our nations to work together to create a better world for our most precious resource, our children.

20th EECERA Conference: Knowledge and Voice in Early Childhood: who knows, who speaks, who listens?
The meeting is the 20th annual conference organised by the EECERA "European Early Childhood Education Research Association" in collaboration with the Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC).
The conference will explore the theme of democratic commitment to work in the development of early childhood research, practice and policy, through three perspectives.
One refers to 'Who Knows' and wants to analyse how knowledge in early childhood is constructed, who controls the dominant discourse and who has voice in its generation and applications.
The second perspective is titled 'Who Speaks: Exploring Innovative Paradigms & Methodologies', and focuses on new paradigms and methodologies which are emerging in early childhood research and practice. In particular, participatory paradigms which aim to actively include the voices of children, parents and practitioners are to be explored.
Finally, the third point of view is related to 'Who Listens: Knowledge & Voice in Action', and explores how knowledge is generated through listening more actively to alternative voices, particularly from children, parents and practitioners, and how this knowledge is being used to shape research, practice and policy.
